When working with Cedar battens for slatted fencing or cladding, it’s essential to trim both ends for a precise, seamless fit. Trimming ensures that each batten will align flush and tight, as machined ends are often not perfectly square. For long-lasting results, use stainless steel screws, nails, or pins with Cedar, as non-stainless fasteners can lead to black marks and timber staining.

Before treating or staining your battens, make sure they are thoroughly dry. We recommend applying treatment only in the summer, allowing at least six weeks of warm weather for proper drying. Cedar should always be treated when completely dry to ensure the best finish.
